Immigration Works at El Dorado Airport Progress Smoothly, Reaching 76% Completion

  • With an investment of COP 18.608 billion, the immigration area at Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport will expand by 33%, increasing from 1,624 m² to 2,162 m².
  • This expansion, along with the reconfiguration and technological upgrade including 8 new biometric migration modules, will enable a more efficient immigration entry process into the country.

Bogotá, Colombia. February 17, 2026. The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), Migración Colombia, and the concessionaire OPAIN conducted a technical visit to the immigration area at El Dorado International Airport, where construction progress was reviewed. These improvements will allow migration authorities to provide a more efficient service.

The airport expansion project has already completed the construction of a new 187 m² office for CECAM (Joint Strategic Center for Migration Analysis), which has been equipped and delivered with CCTV systems, air conditioning, fire protection networks, fire detection systems, a video wall, archive space, and a technical room.

“Thanks to institutional coordination, together with OPAIN we have been able to move forward with these interventions without affecting airport operations. Overall, this expansion not only represents physical growth of the area, but also a strategic advancement in capacity, operational efficiency, and technological modernization of the migration process,” said Milena Jiménez, Vice President of Contract Management.

Once the interventions and network adjustments are completed, the immigration area will have 33 immigration counters and 29 biomig1 units, for a total of 62 migration service modules. Additionally, users will find new informational screens integrated into the entrance portal, aligned with queue management and passenger guidance systems.

“Together with ANI and Migración Colombia, we are advancing a strategic project to strengthen operational capacity and improve the experience of international passengers at El Dorado, with the immigration area expansion now reaching 76% completion,” explained Natalí Leal, General Manager of OPAIN.

Due to the steady increase in flights and tourism growth promoted by the Government of Change, El Dorado has seen migration flows of nationals and foreigners rise from 4.5 million passengers in 2022 to more than 6.2 million in 2025, representing a 38% increase.

These interventions, along with those completed in 2025 with the support of the Government of Change, are essential to adapt to the airport’s current operational dynamics and aim to reduce waiting times while ensuring efficient, high-quality service.
